5 of the Best Cafés and Tea Rooms in the Peak District

Amy Dillon • May 22, 2023

There are a wide selection of tea rooms and cafés in the Peak District. Luckily for us, most of them supply a very delightful array of cakes! There are so many to choose from and we can't recommend them all, so here are our top 5. These are personally recommended by us and are very popular with our guests!

1. Hartington Farm Shop & Café

The Hartington Farm Shop & Café is a family-run business located within the picturesque village of Hartington. They supply homemade food including breakfast, lunch, snacks & delicious homemade cakes, including all the finest locally-sourced ingredients wherever possible. They also have a little shop which is filled with locally made gifts and fresh local food, including but not limited to milk, eggs, bread, meat, and produce. We love this little spot and it's definitely one of our favorite breakfast spots. Hartington Farm Shop & Café, Hartington, SK17 0AN - 1.6 miles from Upper Hurst Farm.

2. Beresford Tea Rooms

Situated in Hartington next to the Devonshire Arms pub, you will find a small tearoom which has been run by the same family since 1987. Open daily from 10am to 5.30pm, they cater for morning coffee, light lunches, ice cream and afternoon teas etc. Their cakes are some of the best and they're all homemade. If a traditional countryside tea room is what you're looking for, Beresford Tea rooms should be top of your list. Inside you will also find the village post office, as well as a little shop filled with local goodies, greetings cards and other gifty items. Beresford Tea Rooms, Hartington, SK17 0AL - 1.7 miles from Upper Hurst Farm.

3. The Tea Junction

The Tea Junction was once home to the steam engine which ran through the Manifold Valley. The building has since been lovingly restored & turned into a tearoom with the visitor centre next door – the surrounding area is teaming with history and its industrial heritage. Situated at the start of the Manifold Way (a disused railway line, now a cycle trail), the Tea Junction is a fabulous spot for a coffee, cake or light lunch. The Manifold Way is a personal favourite of ours, so be sure to head down there. The Tea Junction, Hulme End, SK17 0EZ - 0.9 miles from Upper Hurst Farm.

4. Wetton Mill

Wetton Mill is a beautiful cafe on the Manifold Way. SItuated a couple of miles further down the trail from the Tea Junction, this dreamy little spot is right next to the river. It serves ice creams, homemade cakes, homemade sandwiches, coffee and more. The location is truly unrivalled, it's the perfect place to kick off your shoes and go for a paddle after a long walk or bike ride. It's located a short distance from Thor's cave, making it a very popular spot in Summer. Definitely worth a quick stop if you're heading that way. Wetton Mill, Dale Farm, DE6 2AG - 3.6 miles from Upper Hurst Farm.

5. Tagg Lane Dairy

Tagg Lane Dairy is situated across the road from the start of the Tissington Trail - a local cycle route. It is best known for its incredible artisan gelato (ice cream to you and me). As well as their fresh ice cream (made daily!), they sell an array of locally sourced, grass fed beef and venison, eggs, raw jersey milk and more. Their coffee is also to die for if you're a coffee snob like us. Our advice would be get there early to beat the queue. The queue will be out the door and along the driveway, people drive miles for a Tagg Lane ice cream. Tagg Lane Dairy, Monyash, DE45 1JP - 6 miles from Upper Hurst Farm

There are so many wonderful cafes and tea rooms in this area that is really is difficult to choose 5. Rest assured that these 5 are the very best and they are all really close to our site which is a bonus. We hope you enjoy trying out these lovely local cafes, and if you have any suggestions for more cafes to add to our list, please let us know!

We're thrilled to announce that we've been rated 5-stars by Visit England - England's official tourist board! It's the first time we've applied for an official star rating and we're over the moon to have been rated 5 stars. In their report, visit England said: "The park is maintained to an extremely high standard with a strong nature-based ethos. Nestled in the Peak District guests are guaranteed a tranquil location with stunning views and excellent facilities. The owners do a superb job in maintaining this established park to such a high level. Continual investment ensures guests can expect a high standard throughout." It's wonderful to receive some recognition for the hard work we put into the site. We promise to continue to maintain and improve what we have created here so that our standards never slip, and so our customers can continue to enjoy the landscape and location.
