Upper Hurst Farm is in a stunning rural location, with facilities that have been compared with high-end hotels. Upper Hurst Farm Caravans & Camping is a family-run business that welcomes families with children, people with disabilities and we are also pet friendly.

On Bank Holidays and at other busy times we allocate pitches based on our customers’ requirements and we take great care to ensure that we satisfy everyone’s needs and that you have a choice of pitches.
The caravan and camping pitches at Upper Hurst Farm are on a large, gently sloping field, in which generous super-pitches have been created. The pitches offer stunning views over the surrounding rural landscape, with open views to surrounding higher ground.
Each super-pitch has a hardstanding area, with 16A electric hook-up, its own water tap and a grey waste disposal point at the rear of the pitch.
The super-pitches have been arranged in 3 thirds: one third hardstanding (for caravan/motorhome/campervan); one third is 50:50 hardstanding and grass and one third is all grass, where the awnings are located.
If you have a continental ‘van or have a unit with the main door on the opposite side, please speak with the wardens who will be able to accommodate you.
We have 11 tent pitches, all with optional 10A electric hook-up, which are set around the perimeter of the main camping area. There is ample room for toddlers to play safely in the centre of this area, but there is a separate area for ball games.
The tent pitches are approximately 9x9m, which is ample for most tents, but if you have a very large tent and/or you wish to bring additional structures or gazebos please let us know when you book your pitch.
For campers with restricted mobility, we have two tent pitches that are on a flat grassy area, which are closer to the toilet/shower block.
Toilet & Shower Block
We worked with a local architect to design our toilet and shower block, featuring underfloor heating, which keeps the facilities warm all year round.
Our aim is ‘to have things looking exactly as they did on day one; we work hard to maintain our excellent standards and we continue to make improvements, such as the addition of a free-to-use hair dryer in the ladies.
Our showers are free, so there is no fumbling for tokens or coins and there are no push buttons, so you can enjoy unlimited hot water. The hot water is fed from a biomass boiler with a storage capacity of 5000 litres, so there is always an ample supply even when we are at full capacity. There is also LED lighting throughout, in line with our green ethos.
There are also shaver points above the sinks in the men’s shower room and electric hand-dryers. In the main entrance area there is a large map of the Peak District, along with information covering local attractions, things to do and places to eat.
Disabled & Family Wet Room
The toilet and shower block also incorporates a large wet-room area that has been designed for disabled guests and is also available for families with small children.
There is a large pot-washing sink outside the pot-washing and laundry room that is suitable for disabled access.
Pot Washing & Laundry
There are two pot-washing sinks and a washing machine and dryer (metered coin), iron and ironing board (free). Outside we have an additional pot-washing sink.
We have a 4.5-acre field that has a very large mown grassy area designated for recreation.
This is perfect for children of all ages to play ball games or just to explore the many footpaths that we mow in the longer grass meadow. The mown area includes a small swings and slide area that is suitable for small children. This field is at the top of the site and well away from the minor road entrance to the site so it is extremely safe, even for little ones.
We have paddocks to the left of this large area where the children can see our four characterful and friendly mini-Shetland ponies. We also have ‘meet the pony sessions’ and offer pony walks.
OUR FIELDS AND MEADOWS ARE PERFECT FOR GAMES AND LETTING OFF STEAM
Dogs are very welcome and we mow paths around and in our 4.5-acre field for dog-walkers. When there are no other dogs around and/or children playing it is fine to let the dog off the lead.
The only exception is during the winter months and spring when we graze the mini-Shetland ponies while we wait for the ground to become dry enough for them to return to their paddocks. We retain a smaller area for dog-walkers during this time. All of our fields surrounding the site have public footpaths through and are ideal to give the dogs a good run around. We are in the centre of two extensive Derbyshire Dales, with many walks suitable for dogs from the site.
Fire Pits & BBQ
Barbeques are allowed and we hire fire pits on the basis that you buy the wood and kindling from us (our wood is all kiln-dried and doesn’t create excessive smoke).
